Incy Wincy Spider

Just found this old photo I took back in spring/summer 2010.
I was photographing nature around the area I live and just as I focused on this particular daffodil this tiny spider climbed on the the petal. Not going to lie, I did give a tiny scream because I am truly terrified of spiders and it looked a lot bigger on my camera screen then it was in real life.
Anyway I think I must of scared the poor guy because he didn't make a single movement for about 30 seconds and I managed to compose myself and get this shot of him before he crawled away.

Even though I am scared stupid of spiders, this still has to be one of my favourite photographs I have ever taken, the quality could be better and the exposure isn't quite right but there is something about this photo that I just love, maybe its because it is untouched by man, just pure nature.

Inspired Design

n this brief I was given the image of a chandelier and after my research and technique experiment I've started designing and these are just a few.
To create the patterned background I painted the page with black ink before drizzling with thick bleach for my designs to be layered on top.
What do you think?

Dropping by Alberto Seveso

In my last photography evening class we experimented with dropping ink into water and attempting to photograph the outcomes.

After wards I decided to have a look if any photographers had captured anything similar to our class and I came across Alberto Seveso. Instead of dropping ink into water he drops ink into oil. Due to different consistency of the fluids they don't mixed together like ink and water meaning that the inks almost sculpt themselves as they float in the oil.

When I first saw the images I thought that it was sculpted play-doh rather than ink because of the more compressed quality compared to my results. the oil seems to work much better compared to water. However water is free and for a student free is always the better option.

"Dropping, is the natural evolving of my previous projects using ink and water. This time I tried something different using the oil instead the water and the outcome was amazing! The title is very important to me, because it is a tribute to the master of the dripping technique, Jackson Pollock. I always was a big fan of the chaos theory."

Atton Conrad O’murchadha

Atton Conrad O’murchadha is a London based Advertising and art photographer who has produced these amazing pieces of photography artwork for Futures Light’ story in 125 Magazine.

In this project he painted dresses onto models using the light drawing/painting technique.
He has almost created different brush strokes in his work to create truly unique a new idea of fashion and photography.

Light painting technique taken to a different level

Using the light drawing/painting technique I shot these images and they are seriously creepy.
The images of almost painful, distorted poses layered on top of each other give a possessed feel to my subject. You wouldn't think he was laughing the whole way through the photo shoot.

Ink and water

During in my photography night class we captured what happens when coloured ink is dropped into water, these are a few of my images.
I tried using different objects to hold my water and different thickness of ink. Seems to be the bigger container the better (also easier to photograph) and the thicker the ink the longer it it holds together however it looses the the smoky quality the thinner ink has.

Tartan and PVC

Yesterday I was given about a meter and half of green tartan wool fabric to play with to try and create a garment for myself. I tried pairing it with different types of fabric I had when I then found some PVC scraps that worked perfectly.

I played around with the fabrics, experimenting with my design. After a while it seemed to be that best way to incorporate the PVC was to have short sleeve rather then a panel or a strip.
Because of the pattern of the fabric, I wanted to keep the shape of the garment simple so I decided on a simple shift dress and I made the patten by drawing round a baggy T shirt and adding darts and here is the final complete garment!

A Quick Picture

While walking the white fluff bomb of a dog known as Lolly on Two Gates Field (Roe Lee) I spotted this barbed wire against the sky and something about it really caught my attention and I just had to get a photograph of it.

I like the way its a bit of a contradicting photograph, the cold, sharp, man-made barbed wire against the background of a blue, natural sky with soft, fluffy looking clouds.

Break Time Mr Bee

While out in the garden I spotted this little fluffy bee having a break from his busy life on the side of my house. I don't think Ive ever been so close to a bee before and in a strange way it was quite relaxing and the bee didn't seem too bothered either!
I had to get a picture of it before it was too late and now my mind is going crazy with designs that are inspired by such a tiny little creature. In a strange way I find it beautiful, maybe it was the vibrance of his colours and I was sad to see it fly off after his little break

Sofa Accessories, Map style

These contemporary cushion covers are designed and produced by Salt Labs, USA.
The unique designs are inspired by 18th and 19th century illustrations, maps and nautical charts.
The inspiration used for Salt Lab designs makes them unusual and unique.
The images are reprocessed, digitally printed before the fabric is hand sewn into cushion covers to make these eye catching cushions.
Due to the fact the design company is in America most of the city maps are American cities, maybe I could design a cover that shows English towns and cities from the same period of time.

Can't See What is Always Ahead

This is a photograph was taken on a journey through a rainforest by Skip Nall. To me it shows that you can't completely tell what the journey ahead of you will bring.
Skip Nall was originally a advertising photographer before changing to travel after a trip to France. Later he then travelled to Asia where a lot of his photos where taken.

Emily Kiddy

Emily Kiddy is a freelance print designer specialising in young fashion.  This collection was inspired by a wonderful trend report that she developed for Spring/ Summer 2014. She noticed “a huge amount of bird illustrations, collages, drawings, photographs (you name it!) trending on blogs, Pinterest and Etsy”  and was inspired by techniques such as: collage, pop colors, watercolor, dress up birds and layering. Emily, who is based in the UK, works with many international clients and also lectures on fashion marketing and management at The University for the Creative Arts in England.

For my work I could change the theme from birds to something more linked to my journey brief. I like the idea of layering images over other images, cut outs and text to create a layered effect that is still 2D.

Richard Long

On his travels throughout the world Richard Long creates sculptures on different landscapes. The images of his work show the different places he has been to on his journey. Looking at his work he seems to use materials naturally found in areas he is creating art in.

A lot of his sculptures have the words line or circle in the name of them, this made me think of journeys because most journeys might be a 'line', say to work but the returning journey makes it a 'circle'.

I like the idea of using found objects while travelling, for my work I could objects that are found in urban settings where I travel like rubbish.

Caged In

These show the final structure of the wire mannequin I designed in a earlier post. I got the
shape by moulding the wire to a mannequin, I originally used a copper colour wire but it wouldn't keep the shape properly so I changed the wire to a thicker, less springy silver.

While making the mannequin I started to think of the materials and shape of it and how they contrasted. The wire is strong, which is seen more a masculine feature wheres as the shape is much more softer because of the curves, seen as a more famine characteristic.

The horizontal pieces of wire hold the shape of the mannequin to create the just as a corset would force a body to be a certain shape.

The wire mannequin reminds me of a cage and how a corset would cage women, I think I would like to do some research into the restrictions of women in the past for a future project.

Mannequin Design

Here's the design for my wire mannequin and a little prototype made from copper wire. I like the colour of the wire but I don't know if copper wire would spot wield, might see if I can find any copper coloured wire instead

Tape designs

These are a few designs I've made using video tape and then free stitched on top. On the second image I stitched around the drawn mannequin then I had the idea of making a mannequin from wire. I stripped some cable to get the copper wire to make a mock up of a mannequin to see if it's possible, I'll post a finial image of the mock up when it's complete

VHS, Cassette Tape & Video Tape Art

While considering what recycled materials I could use for the recycled brief my mum and dad were re-decorating the living room and one cabinet was full of old disney videos tapes that were off to the skip, so I decided to rescue them.
While looking for inspiration to create art from video tapes I online came acrosshttp://inspirationgreen.com/vhs-tape-reuse.htmlThis website is a collection of artists who use video tape and other unusual materials to make their art such as:

video tape artZilvinas Kempinas - ColumnsMade from stretched video tape over plywood to create columns that are the same at every angle however look more transparent in the middle.

Williams Anastasi - Beethoven's Fifth SymphonyThis piece is created using a recording of Beethoven's Symphony on tape, it reminded me of art piece made by a past student that I have see in college made from fabric rather then draping tape.

Faux Fur Coat

This fur coat is a old second hand coat with a slight difference, woven into the fabric is cassette tape, created by Nancy Judd.

1940s skirts

During the 1940's skirts designs became more simple because of the war and lack of supplies, such as material to make fabric. Posters advising the public to "make do and mend" rather then buy or make new were produced. However when new clothes were made they used less fabric compared to the previous decade so skirts like the pencil skirt fell into fashion.
